The Montreal Machine beat the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds, 6-4, at Dog Park in Ellenburg. Montreal center fielder Mario Ortíz had an outstanding performance. He went 2-3 with a triple, while scoring 2 runs. Gunnar Hamilton, 1-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Gary Smith recorded his 7th save for Montreal.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Daniel Pollock came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Ellenburg pitcher Bobby Dudley, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 5-4.
"Winning never gets dull," said Ortíz.
By defeating Ellenburg, the 9th-place Machine improved to 31-40.
