Win Lifts Starks to 38-33
|
The Syracuse Starks knocked off the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys, 3-2, in USPL Triple A action at The Zoo in Syracuse. Syracuse pitcher and Havre, Montana, native Todd Johnson had an outstanding performance. Johnson, now 6-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The Starks are now 38-33.
Evan Winn went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk for Syracuse. With one out and the game tied in the top of the sixth inning, Winn had a clutch at-bat. Facing Syracuse hurler Pete Scott, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Starks a 3-2 lead.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Syracuse skipper Homer Robertson.
