The Squirrel Hill Pierogis took on the Providence Pilgrims at Field of the Rawhides.

The Squirrel Hill Pierogis knocked off the Providence Pilgrims, 9-1, in USSL Double A action at Field of the Rawhides. Squirrel Hill pitcher and Linden, New Jersey, native José Garza had an outstanding performance. Garza, now 4-1, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.

Making an impact for the home team was Anthony Brown. In the bottom of the fourth, the 26-year old center fielder had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 2-0, Pierogis.

"We're in a little bit of a dry spell," said Providence manager Arturo Rochel.

The 4th-place Pierogis now sit at 16-14.
