The Providence Pilgrims picked up a win at Baby Thunder Dome, topping the St. Petersburg Thunder, 5-1. On the mound for Providence was right-hander Kendrick McAllister. He played a principal role in the triumph. McAllister, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The win elevated the Pilgrims to 18-16.
Mike Fowler had a big 2-run home run for the Pilgrims in the top of the third inning. With Providence leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Otojiro Kozawa and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Pilgrims on top, 5-1.
Providence manager Arturo Rochel called it "a darn good win."
