Behind a fine performance from Gonzalo Valéncia, the Squirrel Hill Pierogis knocked off the St. Petersburg Thunder, 7-4. Valéncia went 2 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Pierogis. Diego Manchego earned the save for Squirrel Hill, his 8th of the year. By defeating St. Petersburg, the 7th-place Pierogis improved to 18-20.

Squirrel Hill got a big at-bat from Trenton, Missouri native Michael Jones, who in the bottom of the first hit a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Pierogis ahead, 3-0.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Valéncia, "one at-bat at a time."
