The Asheville Highlanders faced a tough opponent in St. Petersburg pitcher Juan Torres, but still scratched out a win at Baby Thunder Dome by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Torres went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Dave Wilson in relief, making him now 3-1. Mike Parkinson took the loss for St. Petersburg. The Highlanders improved to 24-23.

Asheville used the timely hitting of Adrián Salazar to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Highlanders on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Salazar said.
