Pierogis Score Late to Beat Liberty Academy, 2-1

Philadelphia wasted a solid 7-inning effort from starting pitcher Chad May, losing to Squirrel Hill, 2-1, at Liberty Academy Field. Jeff McElroy, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 4-3. Diego Manchego picked up the save for Squirrel Hill, his 12th of the year.
Squirrel Hill used a clutch hit from Guillermo Rodríguez to get the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said Pierogis manager Ben Cooper.
The Pierogis are now 25-32.
