Getting an impressive start from Daniel Shields, Minnesota beat Billings by the score of 3-1. Ryan McDaniel came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. Clay May recorded the save for Minnesota, his 3rd of the season.

Leo Moore had a direct impact on the outcome. Moore contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Minnesota up, 3-1.

"You can never predict what'll happen," Shields said. "That's why you play the game."

The Loons improved their record to 30-28 by beating Billings.
