Tight Tilt Goes to Uruguayans, 3-2
|
The Germantown Uruguayans overcame a pretty good performance by Fort Knox third baseman Alvin Gardner, beating the Centennial, 3-2, at Ballpark of Baxter. Gardner was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Germantown has now won 3 straight, while the Centennial have lost 3 in a row.
Germantown used the timely hitting of Tony Pickett to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Uruguayans on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Michael Malloy.
