Uruguayans Rally For Late Win Over Flanderses
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Germantown Uruguayans and the Hudsonville Flanderses, 19-year old right-handed pitcher Valentín Buitrugo proved to be the difference. The Germantown right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Uruguayans win. Germantown reliever Cory Valéncia was the winner. His record is now 3-2. The losing pitcher was George Betchley. The Uruguayans improved their record to 11-14 with the win over Hudsonville.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Manny Dávila came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hudsonville pitcher Michael Elkins, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Germantown on top, 2-1.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Dávila told the Germantown Today.
