Plattsburgh Park hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
Plattsburgh Puffer Fish starter Vern Peña found his groove in his team's 1-0 win over the Northwest Territory Beavers. The winner was Peña. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Lars Ketting.
The Puffer Fish got a big at-bat from second baseman Maija Meikäläinen. For the game, Meikäläinen went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead.
"Both teams played hard," said Plattsburgh manager Mike Carlisle.
Plattsburgh, at 14-17, occupies 6th place in the Premier Low A.
