Carr Excels, But Beavers Win
|
Hicksville third baseman Lynwood Carr had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Carr hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5, even as Northwest Territory beat the Hounds, 9-7. The win was credited to 22-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Martínez in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Javier Mejía took the loss. Picking up his 3rd save was 19-year old left-handed pitcher Greg Thomas.
Had Andy Morrow not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Morrow hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Beavers.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Art Manning told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
The win elevated the Beavers to 35-23.
