Lighthouse Win with Late Rally
|
The Long Island Lighthouse did just enough to nip the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 6-5, in 11 innings. Long Island first baseman Jesús Serrano, in particular, had a standout performance. Larry Alexander claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 2-1. Long Island, at 41-27, is 2 games up in the Silver League.
Serrano had a game-changing home run in the top of the 11th. On a full count fastball from Eugene Ingram, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Lighthouse a 6-5 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Serrano.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Michael Esposito, the Long Island skipper.
