Late Rally by Lighthouse Locks Up 5-2 Win
|
The Long Island Lighthouse knocked off the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 5-2, in United States Silver League action at Pittsburgh Grounds. Long Island pitcher and La Mirada, California, native Anthony Hines had an outstanding performance. Hines, the winner, moves to 11-4. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up no walks. Clancy Turner was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
Long Island needed the clutch hitting of Eric Hall to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Lighthouse on top, 5-2. For the game, Hall had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We did the things it takes to win a ballgame," said Long Island manager Michael Esposito.
Long Island is now 42-27, 2½ games up in the Silver League.
